Yaakov Avinu was the first Jew to leave Eretz Yisrael and go into galut (chutz la'aretz). In Charan, he built his family, married, raised children, and even ran a successful livestock business.
Yet after 20 years (see Rashi on Bereishit 31:41), Yaakov suddenly decided it was time to go home. What changed? Why now?
Did Nefesh B’Nefesh hold a conference in Charan?
Of course not. Yaakov never wanted to leave Eretz Yisrael in the first place. Hashem assured him, however, that His Shechinah would accompany him in galut — in Charan — and protect him even under Lavan’s roof.
As long as there was some degree of peace in Beit Lavan (the “White House”), Yaakov knew the Shechinah was still with him, even though Lavan cheated him in business time and again.
But then something changed.
In just a few weeks, we will read (Bereishit 31:2):
וַיַּ֥רְא יַעֲקֹ֖ב אֶת־פְּנֵ֣י לָבָ֑ן וְהִנֵּ֥ה אֵינֶ֛נּוּ עִמּ֖וֹ כִּתְמ֥וֹל שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם“Jacob saw that Lavan’s face was not the same toward him as it had been before.”
Yaakov understood that when the face of Lavan changed, it was a sign that the Shechinah no longer wished to remain there.
Immediately after that, Hashem appeared to Yaakov and told him (31:3):
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל־יַעֲקֹב שׁוּב אֶל־אֶרֶץ אֲבוֹתֶיךָ וּלְמוֹלַדְתֶּךָ וְאֶהְיֶה עִמָּךְ“Return to the land of your fathers and to your birthplace, and I will be with you.”
This confirmed Yaakov’s intuition — it was time to return home.
Although Beit Lavan of today (the White house) and it's current leader Trump may be the best friend Israel and Jews ever had, the problems in Haran started with Lavans decedent's and Sheppard's.Just one verse earlier (Bereishit 31:1) we read:
וַיִּשְׁמַ֗ע אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֤י בְנֵֽי־לָבָן֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לָקַ֣ח יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב אֵ֖ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְאָבִ֑ינוּ וּמֵֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר לְאָבִ֔ינוּ עָשָׂ֕ה אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַכָּבֹ֖ד הַזֶּֽה“Jacob heard that Lavan’s sons were saying: ‘Jacob has taken everything that belonged to our father, and from what belonged to our father he has gained all this wealth.’”
The resentment came from the next generation — the ones who questioned Yaakov’s success and accused him of taking what was not his, ignoring that his wealth came through hard work, ingenuity, and Divine blessing.
Sound familiar?
Trump's Baby is New York City! It's Sheppard's are the current people who live in and run it. They have now by majority elected a NEW face. A communist, jihadi Hamas supporter who not only questions peoples success and wealth given to them by hard work, free market ingenuity and Divine blessing, he wants to steal it from them by higher taxation and over regulations, JUST like Laban's Sheppard's.
He OPENLY supports the nation of Israel and the free worlds worst enemies, denies Israel's right to exist as a homeland to the Jewish people as a JEWISH state/country, while having no problem with dozens of Muslim countries. He wants to "Globalize the intifada" which is a call for Jihad on the free world.
When society starts questioning our presence, our prosperity, or our Jewish and Divine free values, perhaps it’s time to recognize the same sign that Yaakov did: the Shechinah may be ready to move on.
And indeed, only when Yaakov began his journey back home did Hashem give him a new name Yisrael. That name, our national identity, was only bestowed once he turned his face toward the Land of Israel.
Let’s learn from Yaakov Avinu, from this parasha, and from our history.
Recognize the signs. Anticipate and feel where the Shechinah is leading.
And consider — maybe it’s time to come home.
